Open Admin Tool is further improving
It is good to see how fast the Open Admin Tool is further improving:
I don't know what IBM's strategy is regarding database administration tools and IDS. AFAIK there have been plans to integrate IDS with IBM Data Studio Admin in the past. However this product has been renamed to IBM Optim Database Administrator in the meantime, is not for free and it seems only to support DB2.
I personally prefer a solution like the Open Admin Tool (OAT) that is directed to the administration of IDS. That allows a deep support of IDS specialities like Enterprise Replication or MACH11 in the administration tool as well as the rapid development of new functionality. Best of all: You could write own plug-ins for OAT.
Ok, OAT only supports IDS. But honestly, we know that IDS is a superior product compared to other database offerings and with the new data warehouse support, there is no single reason to establish a second database platform beside IDS.
