IDS 11.1 - Certification Tutorial VI

The sixth IDS 11.1 certification tutorial called IDS Backup and Restore has been published.

No, you didn't miss part III, IV, V. They have not been published yet, but I'm sure we will see them in the next couple of weeks.

Excerpt:
In this tutorial, you'll learn about backup and restore concepts, and about IDS strategies, utilities, and commands for managing your database backup and restore processes. The material provided here primarily covers the objectives in Section 6 of the exam, entitled "Backup and Restore."

MACH 11 - Tell me more about it

I got several requests to translate my german article which is a roundup on the MACH 11 functionality available with IDS Cheetah. So here is a translation of the article:

MACH 11 stands for Multinode Active Cluster for High Availability.

It is an extremly flexible High Availability Technology which is fully integrated in the Informix DBMS Kernel and builds upon the efficient and nearly linear scalable multithreaded architecture.

Follow-Up on Marketing Ideas (Business Partner Day, Duesseldorf)

Follow-Up on Marketing Ideas (Business Partner Day, Duesseldorf)

This is the follow-up thread for the IBM IM Conference held in Duesseldorf in May 2007. IBM Business Partners and Customers are invited to share their valuable ideas regarding an efficient and visible marketing around IBM's OLTP flagship database named IDS Cheetah.

Post your ideas and concerns in this forum and let's carry on the constructive conversation we had with IBM at the Business Partner Day in Duesseldorf. Informix is already performing excellent in terms of license growth but with your ideas and the superior technology of IDS we might be able to let it take off and getting Informix once again the only real competitor to old-bull Oracle.

The following information from IBM might be useful for Software Vendors and Business Partners:

You can benefit from being part of the IDS Cheetah launch. If you have a software solution build on top of Informix just send an email to validate@ca.ibm.com.

In addition to the Ready for Informix label, there are press, analyst, and marketing opportunities associated with the IDS Cheetah launch, plus other opportunities to highlight solutions at upcoming events, including being a part of the Informix Zone at the 2007 Information On Demand Conference in October.

MACH 11 - Was steckt dahinter ?

MACH 11 steht für Multinode Active Cluster for High availability.

Update 2007-05-30

Overview:
MACH 11 - Tell me more about it...

Bernie Spang (IBM Marketing Director, Data Servers):
In some ways, the new feature is a counterpunch to the high-availability Oracle RAC (Real Application Clusters) seeks to provide its users. Oracle RAC is a multi-node extension to Oracle's database server. However, unlike RAC, MACH 11 does not require a high speed interconnect switch such as Infiniband.

IBM and Oracle Trade Barbs over Databases

IBM and Oracle Trade Barbs over Databases

There is an interesting article titled Is 10g feeling the pinch? written by Philip Howard (Director of Research - Technology, Bloor Research) that has been published on IT Analysis. In this article Philip Howard talks about the recently quarterly results published by Oracle. Oracle said that the database and middleware business together has grown by about 17 %. However Larry Ellison subsequently commented that the middleware business alone has grown by more than 80 %. Philip Howard takes these two numbers and comes to the following conclusion:
